Loran Scholarship deadlines:
OCT 7/16 - 'In-school' application deadline for students seeking Sponsorship.
OCT 26/16 - Deadline for all 'direct pool' applications to be submitted.
The Loran Awards program is open to graduating high school students. Renewable for up to four years, and valued at up to $100,000, it includes a matching tuition waiver, an annual stipend of $10,000, access to funding and internships through a summer program, invitations to annual gatherings and forums, and one-on-one mentorship. 32 Loran Scholars are selected each year and the award is tenable at any of their partner universities.
Eligibility Criteria: Be in the graduating year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school. Exceptions may be considered for those who have undertaken a gap year for academic pursuits or community service-based activities. Present a minimum cumulative average of 85%. Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status. Must be 16 years of age or older as of September 1, 2017.
Other Awards: Loran Finalist Award ($3,000 one time award, 54 available) $3,000 one-time award offered to all finalists who attend national selections but are not selected as Loran Scholars. Tenable at any accredited public university in Canada.
Loran Provincial Award ($2,000 one time award, 40 available) $2,000 one-time award offered to top candidates chosen by regional interview committees for use in any public Canadian university .
Instructions for all applicants:
1. The application is entirely online. There is no need to mail anything. Complete the application at: http://www.loranscholar.ca/
2. As part of the online application, state whether you are seeking sponsorship. **See you Career Advisor for the name of the contact person at your school. Each high school may sponsor up to three candidates.
Note: If you do not receive sponsorship from your school, your application will automatically be considered in the direct pool. Sponsored candidates get a chance to participate in regional interviews. However, Loran Scholars are discovered and selected through both application pools.
3. Request a reference from a teacher, community member or someone else who is familiar with your activities. The reference may not be a family member or a friend. Note: Reference letters and sponsorship confirmation must be complete by application deadline. See website for further details: http://www.loranscholar.ca/
